You ARE Valuable!
Dr. Stephen Newdell
Not so terribly long ago a young man walked onto the stage of Britain's Got Talent, said he thought he was useless, and then apparently mis-understood what was being said to him. He ran into the stage wing and then a gun shot was heard.
I could go into a long discussion of psychology here, but we'll leave that to another piece of writing. What should be understood by anyone helping someone who thinks he or she is "worthless" is that no one comes by a good life easily and that all life has value.
The Creator of the Universe, I assure you, is infinitely aware, and therefore, logically does not make life accidentally or at random. YOU were created with a purpose. You have a job to do. There is an assignment waiting for you. God wants you to stay here and fulfill your purpose, and a great many other people do too! Any form of suicide simply lays the weight of your untimely departure upon the broken shoulders of those left behind who must bear the expense and pains of our loss.
Looking around one sees that, as soldiers say, "Dying is easy. It's living that's hard." Consider Stevie Wonder. He's a famous musician, and was even honored at the United Nations. He was born blind and has faced plenty of adversity but he just kept moving forward and today he's known world wide.
As I recall from some reading, a young fellow in Japan began designing better pistons for car engines despite derisive laughter from his engineering class mates. In Japan to be embarrassed and lose face is a grave insult, but Soichiro carried on, finished his studies and eventually developed motors to attach to bicycles, and then developed motor cycles.
During World War II American Navy bombers (and earth quakes) damaged his factory. The factory workers learned to quickly rebuild their walls. The bombers dropped spent fuel tanks and local people brought the tanks to the factory where they were cut up for sheet metal and used to make motor cycles or small cars. They referred to these tanks as "gifts from Mr. Roosevelt."
Through all the adversity Soichiro and his coworkers carried on, continuing in pursuit of their dreams. No one today remembers those who laughed at Soichiro Honda, but today everyone knows his last name and Honda gasoline and diesel powered products complete for the largest share of annual sales world wide.
Another young man might interest you. He was attending a prestigious university in Boston. He visited the offices of I.B.M. to show them a program he had worked up. You could hold your curser over an icon, click, and a program opened up. Cool idea? I.B.M. executives told him he was a greasy haired kid who didn't know what he was doing and had no business visiting them so informally dressed. They laughed him out of their offices.
He flew home to Seattle, opened a small business out of his garage, as I recall, and called it "Micro - Soft." Today, Bill Gates and Microsoft eats I.B.M's lunch every day! The man is heroic because he knew what he could do and decided he would in the face of adversity, and now his foundation gives a fortune to help the poor and miserable in the most impoverished places in the world.
I know some people in show business. Inevitably the ones who found early and easy success disappeared. Those that continued to improve themselves and keep going while friends told them it was hopeless, have become enduringly successful.
"Lady Gaga" is a case in point. She lived, ten years ago, in a tiny apartment struggling to survive. As of today February 11, 2012, she just lately played the Hollywood Bowl for the 65th birthday of former President William J. Clinton, and she has announced a tour of two concerts per week for a year! None of this came easily. It represents years of hard work and adversity, including by her own admission, two visits to a hospital mental ward. And a year of two concerts per week is very hard work indeed! She and her staff have their work before them.
Everyone has value and if anyone has told you to give up, it is because that person saying so wants to belittle you to make him/herself feel bigger and better by comparison. That person is seriously ill and no one should pay the least bit of attention to his/her ravings.
If it's YOU who feels worthless, just please right now, leave the past upsets behind and Come Into Present Time. No sane person cares about your past. We care about your future.
Come Up Into Present Time.
This minute begins the rest of your life. Pick up your plans and move boldly into the future with them. Your motivation will be to prove you can do it to all of those who say you cannot! Better still, ignore and let them be a vague memory when you stand on your mountain top, goals completed, new goals in the planning.
The Creator of The Universe did not create your life randomly. You are not accidental.
There is a purpose for you and we don't want you to leave. When the curtain rises every morning on the stage of life we want you to be here with us to continue the good fight for life and the improvement of your people and your community.
Look at the gifts you have. Consider that someone wants to love you and share your life, and with that in mind, just continue moving forward, ignoring the dream stealers and naysayers along the side of your path.
The future is yours to build and co-create with God. Ignore the evil fiery darts thrown by the devil and his minions, and make your life valuable and useful. In doing so you'll contribute to all society, and prove to yourself that you are useful and valuable and deserving of respect.
Carry On! And... Welcome to the rest of your life!

Suicide comes in many forms including the slow and devastating abuse of alcohol and drugs, which destroy countless lives every year, including the life of singer Whitney Houston. Her loss is a tragic reminder to you and me to keep our feet on the straight and narrow path and our eyes upon The Creator and "things of good report."
